Spinal Manipulation Manhattan
What is 'spinal manipulation'? and how can a NY Chiropractor help with 'Spinal Manipulation Techniques'
What is Spinal Manipulation?
Spinal manipulation is a therapeutic intervention performed on synovial joints in the spinal column. The most commonly cited of these are the zygapophysial joints. However, the occipitoatlantal, atlantoaxial, lumbosacral, sacroiliac, costotransverse and costovertebral joints are also synovial joints of the spine that may be manipulated.
Spinal manipulation is a therapeutic intervention that has roots in traditional medicine and has been used by various cultures, apparently for thousands of years. Hippocrates, the "father of medicine" used manipulative techniques, as did the ancient Egyptians and many other cultures. A modern re-emphasis on manipulative therapy occurred in the late 19th century in North America with the emergence of osteopathic medicine and chiropractic. Spinal manipulative therapy gained recognition by mainstream medicine during the 1980s

Spinal Adjustment Manhattan, New York city (NYC)
Manipulation is known by several other names. Chiropractors often refer to manipulation of a spinal joint as an 'adjustment'. Following the labelling system developed by Geoffery Maitland, manipulation is synonymous with Grade V mobilization. Because of its distinct biomechanics (see section below), the term high velocity low amplitude (HVLA) thrust is often used interchangeably with manipulation.
Spinal adjustment and chiropractic adjustment are terms used by chiropractors to describe their approaches to spinal manipulation, as well as some osteopaths, who use the term adjustment.
Claims made for the benefits of spinal adjustments range from temporary, palliative (pain relieving) effects to long term wellness and preventive care. Some claims are controversial, particularly with regard to indications and health benefits. There is debate concerning the safety of some of the procedures used in spinal adjustments, particularly those including upper cervical manipulations.
Spinal adjustment is the chiropractic term for a procedure otherwise known as spinal manipulation. When used by straight chiropractors, it is specifically intended to correct
. Spinal manipulation has documented use as far back as Hippocrates and the ancient Egyptians. The techniques were often handed down from generation to generation by families of bonesetters. The modern form of spinal manipulation techniques have characteristic biomechanical features, and are usually associated with an audible "popping" sound. There is strong evidence that this sound is the result of a phenomenon known as cavitation. Many adjustment techniques and methods have been developed through the years by chiropractors, not all of which involve high velocity low amplitude (HVLA) thrust manipulation. What is Joint Cracking?
Cracking joints is the occurrence of moving one's joints such that they produce a sharp sound, likened to cracking or popping, etc. The most common form of this occurs during deliberate knuckle cracking, a process different from snapping one's fingers. It is possible to crack many other joints, such as those between the back and neck vertebrae, wrists, elbows, shoulders, toes, knees, jaws, and the Achilles tendon area
